After Mobile Internet, Broadband Connection Suspended In Manipur Amid Violence In The State
Due to prevailing law and order situation in Manipur, the state government on Thursday (May 4) issued an order to suspended broadband connections across the state. Earlier on Wednesday, the Manipur government had suspended the mobile internet in the entire state for next five days.
"In continuation of State Home Department's order regarding temporary suspension of mobile data services in the territorial jurisdiction of Manipur State for a period of 5(five) days, it is hereby ordered that due to prevailing law and order situation in the State and in exercise of the powers conferred under Rule 2 of Temporary Suspension of Telecom Services (Public Emergency or Public Safety) Rules 2017, having satisfied that the above situation is likely to cause serious disturbances to the entire peaceful co-existence of the communities and maintenance of public order, do hereby order to bar internet/ data services including broadband viz. Reliance Jio Fiber, Airtel Xtreme Black, BSNL FTTH etc. in the territorial jurisdiction of the state of Manipur. All Mobile Service providers are hereby directed to ensure compliance of this order immediately," an order issued by Home Department of Manipur on Thursday stated.
"This order has been issued to prevent any disturbances of the peace and public order in the jurisdiction of Manipur for a period of the next five days with immediate effect," the order added.
According to a report by news agency ANI, vandalism, arson were reported in several districts of Manipur on Thursday amid the widespread protests against the demand for the inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in the Scheduled Tribes (ST) category.
People were also seen on the road with their belongings as vandalism and arson continue in several district of the state.
Earlier today, the Manipur government has also issued a shoot-at-sight order in extreme circumstances because of the prevailing law and order situation.
Meanwhile, Army and Assam Rifles were deployed on Wednesday night to control the situation in Manipur where violence broke out.
