Tamil Nadu Multiplexes To Stop Screening of 'The Kerala Story'

Despite the controversies, the movie garnered a significant collection in the first two days with total collection of around Rs 19.25 crore in India.

 Sudipto Sen's film The Kerala Story, starring Adah Sharma in lead role, which has been in controversy since last few days, will not be screened in the multiplex theatres in Tamil Nadu from Sunday (May 7).

According to a reports, the multiplex theatre owners have cited potential law and order issues and poor response of the film.

A senior member of the Theatre Owners' Association told NDTV, "Due to law and order concerns, other films shown in multiplexes that screen this movie suffer. It affects our income. That's why this decision."

The Tamil Nadu government has not banned the film.

Earlier on Saturday, the Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) in Tamil Nadu on staged a protest against the release of 'The Kerala Story' in Chennai. The Naam Tamilar Party cadres headed by its organiser, actor and director Seeman started protests in the Chennai Anna Nagar Arch near Skywalk Mall in Chennai against the movie, news agency ANI reported.

Seeman also appealed to the theatre owners not to run the film 'The Kerala Story' and urged people not to watch the movie, reported ANI.

Earlier this week, the Madras High Court had dismissed a plea seeking a ban of the film 'The Kerala Story'.

Muslim organisations had sought a ban on the film alleging that it made an exaggerated claim that 32,000 Hindu and Christian women in Kerala have converted and got lured into joining the terrorist group ISIS.

As per reports, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also recently said that the movie was deliberately made with the aim of communal polarisation and to spread hate propaganda against Kerala.

After the film's producers faced criticism for wrongly projecting facts, a promo of the film that claimed 32,000 women from Kerala had joined ISIS has been changed to "true stories of three young girls from different parts of Kerala."

Meanwhile, the movie which released in theatres on May 5 received a mixed response from both critics and viewers. While some praised the film's brilliance, some others criticised it as a propaganda film.
